A mechanic’s creeper is a valuable tool for automotive use, allowing you to comfortably work underneath vehicles while minimizing strain on your body. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use a mechanic’s creeper:

  1. First thing to remember is I choose a flat and stable surface in my garage to use the creeper. Then I make sure there’s enough room for me to move around freely and safely.
  2. Prepare the vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. If you’re working on an incline, consider using wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
  3. Perform a safety check: Inspect the area underneath the vehicle for any potential hazards, such as loose objects, tools, or fluids. Ensure there’s adequate lighting for visibility.
  4. Adjust the creeper: Most creepers have an adjustable headrest and backrest. Set the headrest to a comfortable position and adjust the backrest if available. This will provide support for your neck and back while working.
  5. Position yourself: Place the creeper next to the vehicle and carefully lower yourself onto it, ensuring your body is centered and your feet are clear of any obstructions. Use your hands and feet to propel yourself along the ground.
  6. Slide under the vehicle: Use your arms to push and your legs to control your movement as you slide under the vehicle. Be cautious of any protruding parts or low-hanging components that may require you to adjust your positioning.
  7. Secure the creeper: Once underneath the vehicle, ensure that the creeper is stable and securely positioned. Avoid making sudden movements that may cause the creeper to shift or roll.
  8. Perform the necessary work: With the creeper in place, you can now carry out your automotive tasks, such as inspecting, repairing, or maintaining the underside of the vehicle. Take your time and work carefully, making sure to follow proper safety procedures.
  9. Move and reposition: If you need to move to a different location under the vehicle, use your hands and feet to navigate along the ground. Be aware of your surroundings and avoid potential hazards.
  10. Once I have finished working under the vehicle, I carefully maneuver myself out from under it. Finally, I can slowly slide out and stand up!
